Jurgen Klopp praises five Liverpool players and sends message over Anfield crowd

Jurgen Klopp believes the Anfield crowd ‘proved a point’ against Wolves as Liverpool ground in to clinch a 2-0 victory and close the gap on the Premier League top four.

Having seen a Darwin Nunez strike disallowed for a controversial VAR decision, second half goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were enough for the Reds to move up to sixth in the table - six points off fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand.

While not a vintage performance from Liverpool, a vocal Anfield helped the Reds over the line to claim a valuable three points.

VERDICT: What Jurgen Klopp did to the Kop speaks volumes after Liverpool beat Wolves

And with Van Dijk impressive at centre-back alongside the returning Ibrahima Konate, and with Fabinho also catching the eye in midfield, having been criticised regularly this season, Klopp shared how much he enjoyed his side’s victory after the final whistle.

“We all need that and he needs that as well,” he said of Van Dijk. “It’s obviously a really good one in a tough game for defenders. I thought we performed tonight, we played a really good game in general.

“I really think the centre-halves and Fabinho together, how they covered that area, how they denied the counter-attacks, how they defended into midfield, which is very important against a team which plays with one striker, I thought they did really well. In possession, we looked pretty good in a lot of moments, with Harvey and Stefan in the half-spaces. It worked well.

“I think Anfield proved a point tonight again. It was super, super enjoyable. It felt like a proper unit, we all together. I love that and it’s what we need again on Sunday.”
