Jurgen Klopp picks out ‘superb’ display from Liverpool rout after Harvey Elliott’s first Champions League goal

Jurgen Klopp was left impressed by every one of his Liverpool players as he praised the “superb” Harvey Elliott after Wednesday’s 7-1 win at Rangers.

Mohamed Salah, labelled “outstanding” by his manager, hit the Champions League’s fastest-ever hat-trick off the bench at Ibrox before Elliott rounded off the scoring.

Roberto Firmino grabbed a brace to turn the game around with the leveller comng from Kostas Tsimikas’ corner to the striker at the near post, an assist which also earned a special mention from Klopp.

He told BT Sport: “The goal was a cheeky one from Kostas, he wanted to go there but you have to hit the ball there anyway - a great goal, great equaliser. [Firmino]’s played an exceptional game.

“To be honest I didn’t see a lot of players tonight who didn’t play really well. Harvey played superb, Fabio [Carvalho] top. Both sixes [Jordan Henderson and Fabinho] from the beginning.

“Everyone was spot on in a difficult game, it really could have been much more difficult. I’m really pleased.”

Liverpool take on Manchester City in a huge Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday and Klopp accepted that his side still has plenty to do to prove their worth this season.

He noted: “[This game] is nothing to do with the City game but of course it’s better to get some confidence but we have to prove consistency.

“We have to show that, we say that all the time and I don’t only say it because I get asked!

“We know what we have to do and we’ll give it a try.”
