Jurgen Klopp has opened up on why he left Liverpool at the end of last season, as the German started his new role with Red Bull.
Klopp has officially started his role as the Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull – a move which was announced in October,
The German left Liverpool last summer after eight years at Anfield. During his time there he guided the club to the Premier League and Champions League among other honours.
Jurgen Klopp Explains Why He Left Liverpool
Speaking to the media at his Red Bull unveiling, Jurgen Klopp opened up on why he left Liverpool.
Klopp told reporters that he felt that he ‘couldn’t do the job anymore’ after 25 years in management.
He said: “I always said I loved what I do but the moment when I felt I couldn’t do the job anymore that was it. It was the same at Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool. I am brutally honest with myself.
“It was not only energy. After more than 1,000 games on the sideline, thousands of press conferences I didn’t want to do it anymore. I didn’t want to stop working either, I just wanted to do something different and a new start, and this opportunity gives that.
“There were things I heard but I didn’t have any plans in this direction. I was focused on being a manager and I wanted to be the best version of myself in that role. When you are in the job I was in for so long, it is super intense.”
Klopp when explaining why he left Liverpool went on to add that he doesn’t want to prepare for games every week and wants to focus on the ‘bigger picture in football’.
He said: “I no longer have to improve the game in individual places, but I want to make football better all over the world. No longer prepare a new game every week, but work on the bigger picture.”

He said as per a video shared by Sky Sports: “I hope he stays. He is Liverpool’s best striker in modern times.
“He’s a fantastic player, fantastic human being, an outstanding athlete. He’s the best ambassador your country could have in all compartments. That’s why I hope he stays at Liverpool.”
When asked further about Liverpool’s contract trio, he added: “I’m so happy I’m not in charge in that situation and have to answer these questions now. So good luck. My point of view? I’d love all three to extend. I don’t know, they didn’t tell me. I could text them.”
