Jurgen Klopp offers update on Ibrahima Konate after limping off in Liverpool friendly

Jurgen Klopp doesn't think Ibrahima Konate's injury issue is "too concerning" despite the defender hobbling off in Liverpool 's pre-season outing on Sunday.

The Reds were back in action less 24 hours after their Community Shield victory over Manchester City, albeit with a different looking team. With the new season less than a week away the Merseyside outfit took part in a final friendly, losing 3-0 to French side Strasbourg at Anfield.

Many of the first-team regulars were missing having been involved in Saturday's win over City. Konate, Joe Gomez and James Milner were among the recognisable names - but the centre-half is now nursing a knee issue, which saw him bought after 57 minutes in.

Konate will now undergo a scan, but his manager is optimistic there will be now prolonged time on the sidelines. He said: “We don’t know exactly yet on (Konate), but it doesn’t look too concerning so I hope we caught it in the right moment."

The Frenchman, who is heading into his second year at Anfield, is still trying to establish himself as Virgil van Dijk's regular partner at the back. He is battling with Gomez and Joel Matip, who started in Saturday's win over City at the King Power Stadium.

Naby Keita and Curtis Jones were both due to play on Sunday having only played brief roles the day before. Both men were ruled out though with Klopp offering updates on the duo ahead of the season opener against Fulham on Saturday at Craven Cottage.

Have you say! Where will Liverpool finish this season? Let us know here.

The German said: “Naby is ill, so no. Curtis, we have to see. There was no impact or whatever, so that always makes it a bit, ‘My god, what could it be?’ We had no time. He felt it today and he wanted to play desperately, but then the medical department said no and that we needed to make further tests. We will do that tomorrow and then we will know more.”

Summer signing Fabio Carvalho started in attack for the Reds whilst Harvey Elliott also featured. Tyler Morton, who was given minutes last season, played in midfield.

Liverpool are still looking to get their players up to speed, with Klopp vocal in some of his fixture issues regarding the Community Shield last week. He said recently: “We play Fulham and the next day we play another game, just so that we can extend our pre-season. That’s what we have to do because from mid-August on I think we play every three days again, so there’s no time for training.”
