Jurgen Klopp hopes Joe Gomez’s injury is not too serious after the defender was forced off shortly before half-time in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Southampton.
The England international received treatment on the pitch following a coming together with a Southampton defender and was in visible pain as he slowly limped off before being replaced by Jordan Henderson at the break.
Gomez was seen getting on the team bus on crutches and wearing a protective boot after the final whistle and will now face an anxious wait to see if he can be fit for the Reds’ final Premier League clash at home to Wolves on Sunday and the Champions League final with Real Madrid on May 28.

But speaking after the game, Klopp played down the severity of the injury, as he had done following Fabinho, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s own setbacks last week, and confirmed Gomez was in high spirits when speaking to him in the dressing room.
“I hope we were lucky. Joe himself has pain but not too much,” the Liverpool boss told reporters. “He got a real shock to the system in the foot. But he’s sitting in the dressing room and when I spoke to him he was in a good mood.
“Maybe we were probably lucky but we have to figure that out.”
