Jurgen Klopp must heed Jamie Carragher's advice amid Liverpool and Mo Salah saga

News that Mohamed Salah is reportedly on the brink of signing a new long-term contract at Liverpool may have been celebrated more than Jurgen Klopp 's side's 2-0 home victory over Watford.

Mirror Sport revealed on Saturday that Salah may soon be in the process of putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal. Considering the former Chelsea forward has already enshrined himself as an Anfield legend, this news will come as a huge boost for the Reds’ quadruple hopes this season.

The update was delivered a few hours after the Reds swept Roy Hodgson's team aside to secure a 10th consecutive Premier League victory. But it’s time for the Merseysiders to capitalise on Salah’s purported eagerness by getting the new deal over the line in time for their potentially season defining trip to Manchester City.

While many top players have let their uncertain contractual situations overspill into the performances on the pitch, Salah’s professionalism has remained intact throughout the whole campaign. His body language, his media appearances, but most of all, his performances on the pitch has not connoted a player who is either unhappy or uncomfortable about his future.

There is a wonderful humility to the 30-year-old who has amassed a spectacular 28 goals and 10 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions. While he is not the first player to be projected into international stardom at Liverpool, he is a player who has certainly help drag the Reds to new heights under Klopp.

The recent news suggests Salah is ready to return to the table and thrash out a new deal. "I would love this deal to be done as quickly as possible. You cannot forget the price Liverpool signed Salah for,” former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said after Liverpool’s 0-0 home draw against Arsenal in the League Cup semi-final.

“It wasn't as if they went and spent £100million, they did what they are great at and did a brilliant deal. The money they have invested in him already - transfer fee and wages - has been a snip.

"This is not a case of giving the player exactly what he wants, but Liverpool Football Club and the owners, I don't think they would be forgiven if Salah left this club in the summer or in 18 months' time. He's a Liverpool legend, one of the greatest players the club has ever had, and it needs to be sorted sooner rather than later."

Liverpool sensational return to the Premier League title race has raised the spirits at Anfield to almost unprecedented levels. The way in which they have miraculously overturned a 14 point deficit to move within one point of Manchester City has been nothing short of remarkable.

The piercing Anfield noise and energy is providing Liverpool with the perfect wave of momentum at the perfect time. Pep Guardiola’s side may have efficiently dispatched Burnley, but the former Barcelona manager would likely be lying if he claimed they were not looking over their shoulder.

City also play with an heir of invincibility which leaves many teams beaten before they have even taken to the field. Liverpool will need every single bit of positive energy they can muster if they want to wrestle the Premier League title back from their fiercest rivals.

Victory at the Etihad Stadium in the next Premier League game-week would put Liverpool in pole position towards the crown. There would be no better injection of energy and positivity than a picture of Salah, grinning at a desk with a newly signed contract beneath his gaze.
