Jurgen Klopp makes 'important' Harvey Elliott admission and names unsung hero of Liverpool win

Jurgen Klopp gave credit to assistant Peter Krawietz and the analysis team for the vital opening goal of Liverpool's 2-0 win over Inter.

Roberto Firmino flicked home a header from the near post in the second period before Mohamed Salah doubled the advantage in what was a tough examination in the San Siro.

Firmino, a second-half substitute for Diogo Jota - who faces a Thursday morning assessment on an ankle injury - nodded in from Andy Robertson's corner after 75 minutes before Salah registered his 24th of the campaign inside the final 10.

Klopp credited the work of assistant manager Krawietz and his back-room team for helping exploit the weakness of the Nerazzurri at the corner.

“Pete Kraweitz and our analysts are responsible for that," Klopp said about Firmino's goal.

"When we do the analysis, we see who the opponents are defending, everybody does that.

“We didn’t have a lot of time to train but we trained set-pieces yesterday. That was the only proper thing we did along with some tactical stuff.

“You cannot do it without intensity but it is all credit to Pete and his boys."

Klopp also reserved a word for Harvey Elliott after he became the youngest starter of a Champions League game for Liverpool aged 18 and 318 days.

“Harvey can play so much better he plays in the spaces, because that’s usually his natural game these half-spaces around the middle three," Klopp added.

“He is naturally offensive-minded. He had some really good moments but we all know he can do better but he did the job, he worked incredibly hard.

“When you are 18 and you play against one of the most experienced teams – and they are Italian! – then it is not a walk in the park.

"It was a very important game for him."
