Jurgen Klopp makes 'crazy' Fabio Carvalho transfer admission and explains Luis Diaz Liverpool deal

Jurgen Klopp admits it would be "crazy" for Liverpool to not continue their interest in Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho.

The Reds failed in a deadline day attempt to sign Carvalho having agreed a fee for the 19-year-old only to run out of time to complete the deal.

Liverpool are nevertheless still confident they can reach a pre-contract agreement for the attacking midfielder, who is out of contract at the Championship leaders in the summer.

And asked on Friday what expectation he had of still completing the transfer in the coming months, Klopp said: "I don't know. We will see.

"We are obviously still interested, it would be crazy if not.

"It's at the moment not in our hands. (Fulham boss) Marco (Silva) said it all yesterday in his press conference.

"With these kind of deals, it was late before the transfer window closed again and it didn't work out. We will see what happens."

One transfer Liverpool were able to conclude was their move for Porto winger Luis Diaz, who was snapped up in a deal that could reach £49m.

And Klopp has expressed his delight at the new arrival and revealed the 25-year-old had been on the Reds' radar for some time.

"We signed him because we like pretty much everything about him," said Klopp. "I have followed him for a while, not only since we played Porto twice (in the Champions League this season).

"He is an exceptional player. He has speed, the skillset and the character to have a really good career and we want him to have that career with us.

"Nowadays when you have 16 and 17-year-olds playing at the highest level, he maybe is a bit of a late bloomer but they bloom exceptionally well very often.

"I'm really happy we could get him in now. It's a special story so far. We have some players with special stories behind them and I like that. He is one of us now."

Diaz has yet to train with the first team having had to wait to be granted a work permit after returning from representing Colombia in their World Cup qualifiers earlier this week.

And Klopp, whose side entertain Championship side Cardiff City in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, said: "If he stepped on the pitch and was immediately at his absolute best and playing better than everyone else then it would be really strange.

"He needs time to adapt to it but that doesn't mean I speak about four or five months. I haven't even seen him yet at the training ground so maybe we should wait a little bit!

"We're really happy and excited with the signing, it's a really good sign that we work on all fronts to improve this team. We have to be successful now and in the future so he can help with both."
