Jurgen Klopp was relieved to experience winning again after Liverpool notched their first victory of 2023.
Liverpool will now travel to Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday January 29. Harvey Elliott's stunning early strike was enough for Liverpool to beat Wolves 1-0 in their third-round replay.
Boss Klopp will get a swift chance to avenge the Reds’ dismal 3-0 loss on the south coast last weekend in the Premier League. Klopp admitted: “It feels like ages ago we had a feeling of winning and playing well. I said to the boys after the game, 'that is how it feels when you play well and win'. We can’t really remember that anymore but that was the case so we are quite happy.
“We wanted to go to the next round and we knew already Brighton was the opponent. My job is not to be big-mouthed but the idea is when we go there, that we try to play better than last time.
“This was a reaction we needed to show. The game was much better and different to the last one. We were compact, we were together and when we got the ball, we played exceptional football.”
Teenager Elliott opened the scoring on 13 minutes after a superb solo run with the ball from inside his own half before a screamer which caught Jose Sa well off his line. Klopp added: “If I had been a goalie I wouldn’t have expected a goal in that moment. It was a top goal.”

Elliott’s wondergoal set Liverpool on their way to a deserved win before the Reds return to Premier League action at home to Chelsea on Saturday. Klopp said: “It is an important sign for our people at home as well because there is a massive game coming up.
“If we had played another game like the last one, I am not sure what people would have thought before they arrived at the stadium. Now, they have something they can look forward to and we will fight together again.”
Klopp also confirmed he hopes to keep Roberto Firmino on a new deal amid talks, with the Brazilian out of contract this summer. Meanwhile, Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui, whose side are 16th, said: “In the second half my players put everything on the pitch. Unfortunately for us, we didn't score and now we have to put all the focus on the Premier League.”
