Jurgen Klopp has revealed Arthur Melo is making “pretty good” progress in his recovery from a thigh injury.
The midfielder, on loan from Juventus, required surgery earlier this season and his injury problems have wrecked his time in England so far. Arthur has played just 13 minutes of competitive football since arriving in the summer.
He remains unavailable to Klopp for this weekend’s FA Cup fourth-round clash against Brighton, but speaking ahead of the match the Liverpool boss gave a positive update on the Brazilian’s situation.
“Pretty good, running a lot,” Klopp told reporters. “Two or three weeks, maybe, until he can return to team training.”
Sunday’s match at the Amex Stadium comes just over two weeks after the sides met in the Premier League, with Brighton running riot on home soil in a 3-0 win.
Klopp was left stunned after that match at how bad his side were, but there have been slight improvements since with clean sheets against Wolves and Chelsea.
The Liverpool boss is confident his side will present Brighton with a much sterner test this weekend than they did a fortnight ago, when he described his team’s display as the worst of his managerial career.
“Still the worst game I ever saw from a team of mine, didn’t change since then,” Klopp said. “Thank God, imagine we had played worse the week after!
“Pretty much everything went wrong there. We had to change the approach completely, not only against Brighton but in general.
He added: “Being more compact than we were would be really helpful. We have to make it more difficult for them and we will make it more difficult.”
