Jurgen Klopp is clear his side are dealing with a different beast as they face off against Manchester City this weekend.
The Liverpool boss insists there is a big difference between Rangers and the current Premier League champions, which means a wildly different approach is required if the Reds are to get a result as they return to domestic action. The Merseyside outfit thumped Gio van Bronckhorst's side 7-1 under the lights of Ibrox on Wednesday in matchday four of the Champions League group stage, with six goals bypassing Allan McGregor between the Rangers sticks in the worst second 45 in Rangers' club history. The result equalled the Light Blues' heaviest loss along with topping the list of their biggest defeats in Europe.
But Klopp insists there is an lot more needed from his men This Sunday afternoon. They welcome Pep Guardiola's side to Anfield and the German somewhat dismissed his midweek opponents as they looks ahead to the league blockbuster.
“With all respect to Rangers, we know there’s a big gap between Rangers and Manchester City,” he explained in his pre match press conference.
"We have to prepare the game in a different way, of course, but with aspects of that. Using the positive feeling we have now, but that alone will not give us anything against City.
“You could see we played a good game at Rangers, even when we were 1-0 down, the football we played against the defensive unit was really, really good.
“Harvey and Fabio were really involved in that, were really flexible. Both sixes did really well. That was really helpful and that’s what you have to do. You have to pass the ball around and let them defend as well.
“Usually the problem is that they are that impressive and dangerous in all the things they do that sometimes you forget that you can cause them problems as well. That’s a normal reaction on pressure. But we have to remind ourselves that’s possible and then we will see what we can do with that.”
