Jurgen Klopp hails relentless Liverpool for ‘chasing’ Luke Shaw despite leading Manchester United 7-0

Jurgen Klopp hailed his relentless Liverpool team for maintaining their intensity during Sunday’s record-breaking 7-0 win over rivals Manchester United.

It has been a difficult season for the club amid calls for a major rebuild at Anfield, with dissenting voices suggesting things have gone stale under the German’s watch.

Still, the Reds rolled back the years at the expense of their greatest rivals, recording their biggest-ever victory against United.

Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah all bagged braces before Roberto Firmino added a late seventh to put Liverpool right on the tails of the top four.

Klopp’s side now trail an inconsistent Tottenham team in fourth by only three points heading into the final stretch of the season.

The German roared that his team were “still alive” despite being written off by many and paid special mention to their attitude while 7-0 up, highlighting their chasing of Luke Shaw during the dying embers of the game.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Klopp said: “We were 7-0 up, somebody played a ball to Luke Shaw, back pass, and we chased him with four players and then you think, ‘What are we doing here?’

“How much adrenaline it gives you and how much positivity it gives you.

“Now we have five days or so of time to prepare for Bournemouth; they were unlucky yesterday against Arsenal not to get a point at least. We have to make sure we are ready for that fight.”
