Jurgen Klopp gives worrying Thiago update as Liverpool striker to miss Champions League final

Jurgen Klopp admits the fitness of Thiago Alcantara is “not good” as Liverpool wait to discover the extent of his injury ahead of next weekend’s Champions League final.

The Spaniard hobbled off shortly before half-time of the Reds’ 3-1 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon. Thiago later took part in the post-match lap of appreciation where he was spotted wearing strapping on his right ankle.

And the midfielder will now undergo scans to ascertain the extent of the damage with the clock ticking on Liverpool’s date with Real Madrid on Paris next Saturday evening.

“Not good, but I cannot say more,” said Klopp when asked how Thiago was. “He was outside with the families and had his little girl on his shoulders, so he could walk so that’s obviously a good sign. All the rest we will see from tomorrow.”

Asked for more detail on the injury, the Reds boss added: “The lower part of the body. I know it but I don’t want to talk now about it, actually. We will see. Give us a chance.

“It makes the news not better or worse. We want to wait until we know more about it and then you will get the information as well.”

Divock Origi was given a guard of honour after the match having been absent with a muscle problem suffered during training on Saturday.

And the striker, who will leave when his contract expires in the summer with AC Milan his expected next destination, has played his last game for Liverpool.

“Div is definitely out for the final because he had an injury in the last second of the session yesterday, he had a muscle injury,” said Klopp. “Five days will not be enough for him. Apart from that, hopefully Thiago will have a chance.”
