Jurgen Klopp gives Liverpool fans the news they were hoping for after being left in disbelief by Roberto Firmino reaction

Jurgen Klopp admits he had never seen anything like the reception Roberto Firmino received after Liverpool’s win at Leicester City.

And the Reds boss has revealed the Brazilian has a chance of being fit for an emotional Anfield farewell against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Firmino has missed Liverpool’s last six games with a muscle problem but was among the travelling party for Monday night’s Premier League trip to the King Power Stadium.

The Brazilian’s name was chanted by the visiting supporters throughout the second half as the Reds cruised to a 3-0 win, with the player given a huge reception by both the away end and his team-mates as Liverpool celebrated their victory following the final whistle.

And of the moment, Klopp said: “It was so cool. I’ve never seen anything like that (for somebody who wasn’t playing).

“I think he has a chance of playing (against Aston Villa). We drive home tomorrow and it will be a day off – not for him, but the others – and then Wednesday he will be in team training, that is my information.

“We have to see. The Saturday game is a super difficult game for plenty of reasons. Probably farewell around the game for a few players, and then playing for absolutely everything against the second or third best team in the Premier League for the second part of the season. That’s super challenging.”

Firmino isn’t the only player leaving Liverpool this summer, with James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Adrian out of contract and Arthur Melo – who was on the bench at Leicester – returning to Juventus after his season-long loan.

And Klopp said: “In the middle of everything, we have to win the game. But around that, we want to show the respect and appreciation and love we feel for not only Bobby but all the boys who will leave in the summer.

“It will be a special day with a difficult game in between. We have to make sure we can do both.”
