'That's the way they are' - Bitter Alex Ferguson left fuming when Liverpool ruined Gary Neville's birthday
Once Rafa Benitez had recorded his first win over Manchester United as Liverpool boss in 2006, Sir Alex Ferguson’s “mask slipped” as he stewed over the defeat that knocked his side out of the FA Cup.
Peter Crouch grabbed the only goal of the game as the Reds defeated their bitter rivals and continued on the journey that would see them eventually lift the famous trophy.
A match that was marred by Alan Smith suffering a serious injury after blocking a John Arne Riise free-kick - as well as Gary Neville having a burger thrown at him - Ferguson soured his previously cordial relationship with Benitez with his post-match comments.
"Liverpool can be that way," Ferguson moaned after seeing his side outplayed for 90 minutes. . "They play for five minutes and win a game. That's the way they are."

Diogo Jota injury latest after Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool absence
Diogo Jota will not be available for Liverpool’s game against Norwich City on Saturday.
The Portuguese forward was substituted at half-time during the Reds victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League and left Milan wearing an ankle brace.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Jota will not feature against Norwich, which has cast doubt over whether he will be fit to face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup Final next weekend.
"(He) is not available this week and still needs further assessment,” the Liverpool boss said.
"It is something with the ligaments around the ankle, but not the ankle. Everyone saw him in the boot the other day, but we have to wait.”
