Jurgen Klopp explains gesture to Liverpool fans in away end after defeat at Napoli

Jurgen Klopp has offered his apology to Liverpool’s supporters after their 4–1 defeat to Napoli on Wednesday.

The Reds went four goals behind on a chastening night in Naples as two goals from Piotr Zielinksi either side of efforts from Andre-Frank Anguissa and substitute Giovanni Simeone condemned the visitors to a damaging loss in Group A of the Champions League.

After the game Klopp could be seen gesturing to the travelling supporters and the manager explained what his thinking was in his post-match press conference.

"It's a long flight from Liverpool to Napoli, the problem is people invest and I 100% understand it was disappointing so I had to say sorry for that,” Klopp said.

It means the Reds sit third in Group A behind Napoli and Ajax, who beat Rangers 4-0 in the day’s early fixture in Amsterdam.

Liverpool host the Dutch side next Tuesday in a repeat of the 2020 meeting at Anfield before a trip to Glasgow for a first-ever competitive clash with Rangers on October 4.
