Jurgen Klopp delivered a glowing review of Gabriel Martinelli after Arsenal lost to Liverpool in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
Despite securing a 0-0 draw at Anfield in the first leg, the Gunners were unable to utilise their home advantage at the Emirates Stadium as Diogo Jota scored in either half to clinch the Reds a 2-0 victory and secure their place in next month's final against Chelsea.
Mikel Arteta's side struggled to create many clear-cut chances on the night, registering just two shots on target over 90 minutes before substitute Thomas Partey was sent off after receiving two quick-fire yellow cards in the dying embers of the match.
One of the north Londoners' few bright sparks was Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli, who consistently looked to take on Trent Alexander-Arnold down the left flank, impressing Klopp in the process.
Speaking after the game the German said: "Martinelli by the way, everybody should remember that name because he's an outstanding player."
He added: "The way Arsenal plays with these long balls behind the full-backs, it’s really tricky with the speed they have there with Saka and [Martinelli].
"That’s really, really special, so we had to be awake in these moments. But on top of that, we had to play football.
"The first 10 minutes I didn’t like what we played but then we were in the game and then it looked really flexible and proper. I’m happy about that."
Klopp was similarly full of praise for the talented forward after a League Cup encounter between the two side's back in October 2019.
“[Liverpool centre-back Sepp] Van den Berg played an incredible game,” he said after the two had played out a 5-5 draw with Martinelli netting twice.
"That’s really difficult to deal with these guys. Martinelli’s pretty much the same age but he’s a talent of the century, he’s an incredible striker, so it’s really difficult."
