Jurgen Klopp can unleash dream Liverpool attacking plan after Luis Diaz deal

Liverpool shocked the football world this week with a surprise move for Luis Diaz.

And this afternoon it has been confirmed that the deal is done.

The Reds have swooped for the winger after hijacking Tottenham's bid with one of their own. The Colombian will move from FC Porto for an initial fee of £37m with a further £12m in add-ons.

It is a statement signing from the Reds and one that looks set to shape Jurgen Klopp's future attack.

Diaz will join up with Diogo Jota among others on Merseyside, and his arrival is likely to have quite a dramatic impact on the future of the Portuguese forward, who has scored 10 Premier League goals already this season.

Jota initially arrived at Liverpool with a reputation as a versatile wide forward.

But since working under Klopp, he's primarily been deployed through the middle as a no.9 of sorts.

Despite his central role, Jota has consistently demonstrated his credentials to be a long-term replacement for Sadio Mane, by playing on the left flank and driving inwards before scoring with either foot.

However, Diaz is very much in the Mane mould and unlike Jota, his position for Porto has been fixed on the left flank.

The South American is direct, energetic and fast in possession, and he's almost certain to be fielded on the same side at Anfield as he plays in Portugal.

Indeed, he doesn't quite seem as versatile as Jota, who can essentially play anywhere in the final third.

Considering Diaz is just 25-years-old, he could occupy the left side of Liverpool's attack for the next five years or more, which suggests Jota is likely to remain through the middle in the future as an heir to Roberto Firmino rather than Mane.

If the Reds manage to keep Mohamed Salah at the club by meeting his contract demands, Klopp's next primary front three could consist of Diaz on the left, Jota through the middle and Salah on the right.

Liverpool's famous front three would obviously feature a couple of fresh faces in such a scenario.

But it would still tick the same boxes as before: physical, aggressive, quick, hard-working, tricky and packed full of goals.

With the deal sealed for Diaz, supporters are getting a clear insight into the team's exciting next generation.
