Jurgen Klopp and Robin van Persie agree on Arsenal star fans worry may become Liverpool target

Arsenal youngster Gabriel Martinelli left quite the impression on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp during Thursday's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.

Despite the Reds clinching a 2-0 victory, securing a spot in next month's final in the process, Klopp went out of his way to laud the Brazilian youngster, without even being asked.

Now, the former Borussia Dortmund boss has hailed the 20-year-old's ability again, claiming that if he can stay injury-free he will have a 'proper' career.

“Little Martinelli, we will talk about this player in the future – I can promise", the German said.

“Without injuries, major injuries, Martinelli will have a proper career."

Similarly, former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has previously been full of praise for Martinelli.

Speaking on BT Sport back in 2018, the Dutchman said: "He’s young, he’s 18 years old and the moves he makes and dummies he makes, he looks very good to me, especially at that age.

"I was playing on the wing at that age. With time he will get even better, he looks very good. He knows where the danger is, where the space is. He scored a great goal.

"What I like about him is his link-up play, he looks lively, he looks technical, he looks very good to me, it’s a joy watching him. Five (goals) in five (games) is a great start."

Martinelli has enjoyed a productive season so far, providing four goals and two assists in just nine Premier League starts and the praise of Klopp has even started to worry some Gunners supporters on Twitter, who are scared of the Liverpool manager trying to sign the talented forward.

@afcxseb said: "Hands off Jurgen he ain’t going nowhere."

@Ars_Oscar said: "Klopp should back off, Gabi is winning the league with us next season."

@davidgill201281 said: "Martinelli and saka won’t go Liverpool is no way."

@EngMatthew1 : "Hmmm.Arsenal should better look for his replacement. The guy is young and performing so klopp won't give up. A move in the summer is likely."
