Liverpool are very interested in bringing Chelsea duo Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher to Anfield this summer, a source has told football.london.
As reported late on Tuesday evening, football.london understands the Reds have made Mount their number one priority this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to revamp his midfield after this season's struggles. Mount is someone the club and Klopp believe will naturally fit into the German's way of playing football and they are confident they can secure a move for the 24-year-old who has just over 12 months remaining on his contract at Chelsea.
The Blues still want to keep Mount but will be open to selling him should they not reach an agreement over an extension before the summer transfer window officially opens. It's understood the two parties are still some way off reaching an agreement, with Mount wanting a pay packet more representative of his significance to the club and the board wanting to tie him down to a seven-year deal, something the player's entourage do not wish for.

Todd Boehly and the club's new ownership group are trying to be more decisive with players in the final months of their contracts – and if an agreement over an extension is not reached, then the likelihood is that they will be sold on. Chelsea of course lost Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger on free transfers last summer and the club want to avoid a similar situation with Mount in 2024.
Liverpool aren't done there, though, with the Reds also looking at Chelsea midfielder Gallagher. football.london understands there is serious interest in the 23-year-old who has just over two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher had the opportunity to move in January but wanted to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea. However, despite starting the Blues' last Premier League game against Wolves, his minutes have still been restricted. The England international has made just 11 starts in the Premier League this term.
Liverpool want to sign both Mount and Gallagher, rather than one or the other. Klopp believes both midfielders will add some much-needed energy to his midfield and both have proven in the past – albeit not this season – that they can score goals, something Liverpool have been lacking from their midfielders in recent campaigns.
Chelsea don't have to sell Gallagher this summer but it's a situation that will need to be addressed sooner rather than later as he will soon be entering the final two years of his deal. The Blues, though, will be looking to sell some of their so-called fringe players as they look to balance the books after two really expensive transfer windows under Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
