Jurgen Klopp believes the club's owner John W Henry was right to call for spending restrictions in the Premier League. The Reds chief sparked debate this week by claiming there should be additional limits on top flight spending so the division 'does not go the way of European leagues where one or two clubs annually have little competition.'
Newcastle, armed with their new-found wealth, would be one of the English clubs impacted by such changes as the Magpies attempt to try and disrupt the so-called 'Big Six' this season and beyond. Asked about Henry's comments on Friday, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted he wouldn't want to see a cap on spending introduced going forward.
"I wouldn't want to see any more restrictions on spending," he told reporters. "We have spent money - don't get me wrong - but future restrictions would certainly deny our ability to improve as quickly as we want to."

Klopp was quizzed on the same matter just hours later where he backed up the comments made by Liverpool chief Henry, before launching an impassioned defence of his own side's, rather lavish, spending in years gone by.
“It’s not about names or players but John’s right," he told reporters on Merseyside. "If you have a look at the players we brought in in the last couple of transfer windows, Luis [Diaz], Darwin [Nunez], Cody [Gakpo] all players for the frontline. Sadio [Mane], Bobby [Firmino] and Mo [Salah] together were for quite a while one of the best front threes in world football.
“Sadio left in the summer, Bobby next summer, Mo is [the only one] left pretty much but we replaced them. Diogo [Jota] came in as well. I think that's investment.
"It’s wise investment, responsible investment. It’s what you want and what we needed. We’ll do that for other parts of the team and it will be possible.”
Liverpool have invested heavily in recent seasons but have suffered a rare blip this year after being considered title contenders back in August. The Reds have begun to find form of late and have subsequently leapfrogged Newcastle in the table.
The Magpies have spent big since Mike Ashley left Tyneside but have also benefitted from Howe's coaching methods with players he inherited at St James' Park. Newcastle currently sit sixth in the league, one place and point behind Liverpool with a game in hand over Klopp's side.
