Jurgen Klopp is “afraid of the highs” Darwin Nunez could reach at Liverpool.
The striker ensured his side’s progression into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals by scoring a stunning winning goal at Bournemouth on Wednesday.
Nunez scored 15 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions last season following an £85m move from Benfica but was criticised for his lack of consistency.
One season into his Liverpool career, however, and things are looking much healthier.
The 24-year-old has already scored seven times in 14 appearances including a dramatic brace to beat Newcastle, as well as contributing a further five assists.
Liverpool are enjoying a much better campaign as a whole, too. Klopp’s team are just three points behind early Premier League leaders Tottenham in what looks one of the most competitive title races in years.
With Nunez now having settled on Merseyside, Klopp believes the long-term future is promising.
"His English is now that much better,” he said.
“Everything is different, he's in a very good moment, and this is still only the start. Long may it continue. I'm afraid of the highs he could reach. Let's work from here."
