Jurgen Klopp admits Luis Diaz signing means Liverpool's squad is 'best he's ever had'

Jurgen Klopp has suggested that the arrival of former FC Porto winger Luis Diaz has now upped the standard of the Liverpool team so much it is the best team he's ever had.

The Reds purchased the Colombian international late on in the January window after a stellar start to the season in Portugal.

Diaz has wasted no time in making an impression on Merseyside and while he still awaits his first goal, the quality of his performances have left plenty of fans and pundits excited over his potential.

The 25-year-old came off the bench to make his Champions League debut for the Reds against Inter Milan and is likely to feature in some capacity for the visit of Norwich on Saturday.

Ahead of welcoming the Canaries to Anfield, Klopp confessed that while this is the best squad he has ever taken charge of, there are enough competitors around to ensure life is far from easy.

"We are not the Harlem Globetrotters," the German explained.

"There are a lot of good teams and squads we have to battle with. We need each and every one of these players.

"Top squad, best I've ever had, but stop asking me about the squad. We talk about it for 2 weeks and now Diogo [Jota] is out."

As mentioned by the Reds boss, there is concern over the length of time Jota will be out of action for after he sustained an injury at the San Siro on Wednesday.

Pressed on whether the Portugal international would be fit for Saturday and if not how long he'll be out for, Klopp revealed: "No he will not be available.

"We need further assessment. Some ligaments around the ankle. Everything is possible. It could go quick or the other way. We have to wait."

A win over Dean Smith's side would put Liverpool just six points behind league leaders Manchester City, at least temporarily until the result of their evening clash at home to Spurs is determined.

However, Klopp has insisted that his primary focus is not on catching Pep Guardiola's side table-toppers.

"Out of all the problems I have, the smallest one is Man City. There is no minute when I think about them.

"We only came back yesterday because of the wind and now we play tomorrow. I hope for the support that the crowd push us even more."

The Reds are unbeaten in their last 10 games across all competitions and have not yet tasted defeat this calendar year, their last loss coming away at Leicester in December.
