Jurgen Klopp accepts Man City apology after Hillsborough silence disrupted

Jurgen Klopp has accepted Man City’s apology after reacting to some of their supporters disrupting the minute’s silence in memory of the 97 Liverpool fans who were unlawfully killed at Hillsborough in 1989.

While the Reds end of Wembley impeccably observed the silence, fans in the Man City end broke into a pro-City chant, resulting in Reds fans inside Wembley to start booing after their urges for silence were ignored.

Speaking after the final whistle, Klopp condemned such actions but insisted it had nothing to do with Man City.

“Of course (we accept it), of course. We know this is not Man City,” he said at his post-match press conference. “Some people didn’t understand the situation. That’s not nice and it felt really wrong in that moment but we can’t change that.

“It has nothing to do with City and of course we accept the apology.”

While the pre-match incident left a poor taste in the mouth, Klopp was delighted by the support Liverpool supporters gave his side as they ran out 3-2 winners. And he revealed the travelling Reds have James Milner to thank for him going back and performing fist bumps to them after the final whistle.

“In this moment it’s really important to say, because it was really special and we all felt it, it was special the atmosphere our people created here,” he said. “It was second to none. The weather was perfect for the crowd.

“I loved each part of it, it was really outstanding. Milly told me I have to do it (the fist pumps). I actually wanted to go but Milly said you have to do it.”
