Junior Firpo labelled a 'liability' after Newcastle United performance for Leeds United

Junior Firpo faced the wrath of Leeds United supporters after the 2-2 draw with Newcastle United, with the defender conceding a penalty and sent off.

Firpo saw red late on in the game at Elland Road for a foul on Anthony Gordon right on the edge of the Leeds box. In an eventful performance for mostly the wrong reasons, it was very nearly a second penalty conceded the 26-year-old, having also won a penalty for side.

Patrick Bamford ultimately missed that opportunity to make it 2-0, with Firpo conceding a penalty shortly after for handball before Rasmus Kristensen rescued a point in Sam Allardyce's first home game in charge.

Taking to Twitter after, Leeds supporters vented about Firpo's performance, with one labelling him a 'liability' and saying Allardyce made a mistake in keeping him on the pitch for as long as he did in the game.

There were many similar opinions shared by Leeds fans after the game, with another labelling him a 'lunatic' and 'embarrassment'. Tom Raynor did point out, however, 'at least he can't play the next game'. Matt Vare said: "Firpo trying to get us relegated single-handedly here."

The point means Leeds United remain in the relegation zone and will now await results elsewhere this weekend before their trip to West Ham next weekend and then wrapping their campaign up at home against Tottenham. Reflecting on the result and performance, there was mixed feelings for White fans, desperate to see Allardyce steer them to safety.

@WhitesCentral summarised: "Apart from the poor performances by Bamford and Firpo, I liked the team today. Allardyce organized the house, put Meslier on the bench, the team seems to defend better (apart from Firpo today and the penalty)."

James, meanwhile, reflected: "Two points dropped. Never thought I'd say that about a game against Newcastle with the position they're in..."

Dan wasn't sure how to feel as the fight for safety continued to prove an unnecessary distraction for him. "Decide whether you want to stay up or go down goddammit," he wrote, "My heart can't take it, especially during revision for my A-Levels!"

Less optimistic was Matt, who wrote: "I just always thought today was our best chance, I think West Ham finish on a high and Spurs will punish us on the counter with Kane & Son."

More positive was @Miss_History72, who said: "The fact we scored in open play and their goals came from penalties shows how much we could have got three points today. However, I’ll take that one point and keep my fingers crossed going forward!"
