Junior Certificate exam results will be issued sometime next week, although the exact date has not been released.
Minister for Education Norma Foley told the Oireachtas Committee of Education on Wednesday that students would have their results next week. The Minister said she would be given a specific date by the State Examinations Commission in the coming days. The delay of the results, which are typically issued in mid-September, occurred partially due to difficulties in hiring exam correctors.
Social Democrats TD Gary Gannon said on Twitter he had been informed that a review would take place on the recruitment of examiners to avoid similar delays in the near future. Education officials previously stated the delay occurred in order to facilitate the Leaving Cert appeals process. This concluded in early October.

Gary Gannon said on Wednesday: “We are now almost midway through October and the Minister can only say that she expects to be given a date by the State Examinations Commission next week. The delay calls into question the government’s commitment to the Junior Cert exams.”
The Irish Times previously reported that not all exam corrections were completed by secondary school teachers. There were a small number of unqualified trainee teachers hired for marking, the SEC confirmed.
The setback affected almost 70,000 students sitting the exams, the first cohort to sit the Junior Certificate since 2019. The parent of a Junior Certificate student previously accused the government of treating the cohort as an afterthought. Additionally, students who immediately begin their Leaving Cert programme after the exams may need certain results to undertake higher or ordinary level subjects.
The SEC stated on October 4: “In parallel with the Leaving Certificate appeals, work on the processing of Junior Cycle results is ongoing, with marking complete in most subjects. Given the priority afforded to the Leaving Certificate appeals, we are not yet able to provide a date for the issue of the Junior Cycle results at this time.”
“Every effort will be made by the SEC to issue these results as soon as possible and to provide candidates, parents and schools with certainty about the arrangements for issuing the results in due course.”
