Juninho Bacuna in line for post Rangers mega move as he outshines Lionel Messi despite Argentina thumping

Juninho Bacuna has caught the eye of Boca Juniors after outshining Lionel Messi for his country Curacao.

The 25-year-old was tipped as an exciting signing for Steven Gerrard but he failed to make any substantial impact in six months at Rangers under the Englishman or Gio van Bronckhorst, with just a paltry single start before leaving for Birmingham in January 2022. Since then though he's settled back into life in England nicely and made his 15th cap for Curacao against Argentina in a friendly late last month.

And although they got thrashed 7-0 by the new World Champions, Bacuna impressed, completing more dribbles than Argentina superstar Messi - catching the eye of Argentine giants Boca. The tiny nation's Dutch manager, Remko Bicentini, has revealed how Bacuna may have secured a life-changing move to South America. He said: "When you looked at the stats of the game, Juninho actually had more successful dribbles on the pitch than Lionel Messi. I really enjoyed watching him and so did the Argentinian crowd.

"Juninho has now gained experience at Rangers and in England and to be honest, I don't understand why he doesn't play at a top club. Of course, Birmingham City is a great club, but in my opinion, he can make a very big step because of his attitude, mentality and technical qualities. I sincerely believe that that step will come for him.

"After the game, a Boca Juniors representative approached me to ask questions about him. They were charmed by how he played, and rightly so. You are just talking about the biggest club in Argentina, where Diego Maradona played. It would be great if he gets a move there because of that."
