Natural Born Killers stars Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson are set to reunite for the upcoming serial killer thriller Lips Like Sugar. This film marks their first collaboration since Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers and will see them portraying characters on the other side of the law.
Lips Like Sugar, announced last July, features Harrelson and Owen Wilson as John Carr and Phil Harris, two homicide detectives investigating a potential serial killer case in 1984 Los Angeles during the Summer Olympic Games. Erin Moriarty, Kathryn Newton, and Sasha Calle have also joined the cast alongside Lewis, who will play the mother of Newton's character, Tracy.
The film's official synopsis reveals that the detectives' paths intersect with two teenage girls, Tracy Anderson and Andi Campos, who form a close friendship. When Tracy goes missing, Carr, Harris, and Andi must race against time to find her.
Lips Like Sugar is directed by Brantley Gutierrez, marking his feature directorial debut. The screenplay is penned by Anthony Tambakis, known for his work on Brothers. Will Butler, the former Arcade Fire member and composer of the Oscar-nominated film Her, will be responsible for the film's score.
Production for the thriller is scheduled to begin this month. In Natural Born Killers, Harrelson and Lewis played Mickey and Mallory, a couple who turn into serial killers sensationalized by the media. The film, released in 1994, achieved commercial success despite mixed critical reviews.
Lewis, recognized for her roles in Cape Fear and What's Eating Gilbert Grape, has recently garnered acclaim for her work in Welcome to Chippendales and Yellowjackets. Harrelson, known for his performances in True Detective and Cheers, has received multiple Emmy Awards and Academy Award nominations for his roles in various films.
Owen Wilson, a frequent collaborator of Wes Anderson, has starred in numerous acclaimed films. The young stars of Lips Like Sugar, including Newton, Moriarty, and Calle, also boast impressive resumes in both television and film.
As of now, there is no official premiere date set for Lips Like Sugar.
