Julian Sands missing in 'dangerous' US mountain range as concern grows for Brit actor

Julian Sands is currently missing in an "extremely dangerous" mountain range, as concern grows for the A Room With A View star. The British actor has been named as one of the missing hikers in the San Gabriel Mountains in California, US.

Police have confirmed that the 65-year-old has been missing for almost a week. The Mirror that Julian, who has featured in Oscar nominated films, is one of two hikers currently missing in the range, where two people have died in recent weeks.

Gotham and Dexter star Julian was last seen in the evening of Friday, January 13, in the Mount Baldy area of the range. His family claims that they haven't been in contact with him since then.

A police spokesperson confirmed to PA that the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actor was missing. They said: "On Friday, January 13, at about 7.30pm, a hiker, identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood, was reported missing in the Baldy Bowl area. Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue crews responded and began a search.

"Because of avalanche risks and trail conditions, the ground crews were pulled off the mountain on Saturday evening. However, we continue to search by helicopter and drones when the weather permits."

British filmmaker Cassian Elwes, a friend of the missing star, took to social media last night to share their concerns. He said: "I’ve known since Friday that my friend Julian Sands has been missing on mt baldy. I’m devastated. A very close family friend who was an adventurer in everything he did. I’ve said many prayers. Life is fleeting and precious"

Actor Jim Piddock replied: "It’s awful, Cassian. A wonderfully talented and unique man and a delightful, generous friend. Hoping for a miracle."

Meanwhile, actor Samuel West also shared his reaction to the news on social media. He said: "Please, please let Julian Sands be okay. A friend and an inspiration. Awful news."
