Julian Draxler's PSG future admission amid Newcastle United links

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for PSG winger Julian Draxler. According to le10Sport the Magpies have made contact with the Ligue 1 Champions over a possible move for the German international this summer.

The report claims the two parties are in talks about a deal in the region of €20-30million, with Draxler looking for more game time after a difficult time in the French capital. The midfielder was out of contract last summer but signed a new deal to keep him at the club until 2024.

However, it seems Les Parisiens are looking to move the 28-year-old on from the Parc des Princes. Both Arsenal and Leeds United have been linked with a move for Draxler in the past but Newcastle have emerged as the favourites according to reports.

Speaking after signing a new deal last summer, Draxler told the club's website: "I love this club and the city of Paris. It's a pleasure to play with very great players, for a team like this. I am very happy to have extended [my contract] here."

Draxler was a regular under Mauricio Pochettino, but made just 18 appearances in the league last season, scoring twice. Competition for places at PSG, particularly in wide areas, has made it difficult for Draxler to get consistent playing time.

The German international has said himself that he “needs more game time,” a comment he made on international duty, and something that is even more relevant with the World Cup in Qatar later this year. He said: "I haven't spoken to the coach personally, but he has already told us, as a team, that he needs players who are fit, who are in the rhythm.

"I need to play more games for the World Cup. We'll see what happens this summer." Draxler has won 11 trophies during his time with PSG - four of those being Ligue 1 titles - making just short of 200 appearances, scoring 26 goals and notching 41 assists.

There was plenty of speculation regarding Draxler's future last season, with talk that Kylian Mbappé has a say on players at transfers at the Ligue 1 giants. However, speaking to Bild, the German's agent Roger Wittmann played down reports that Mbappé has a say on player's futures - so the Magpies needn't worry about that.

“I can only laugh about that,” said Wittmann. “We are in contact with the club. You hear the same rumour every year, Julian has just extended. It’s all part of the business but Julian can handle it. He has a great relationship with Kylian but I think it’s a myth that he puts the team together.”
