Julian Alvarez has become the second Manchester City player to reach the World Cup quarter-final. A slender 2-1 victory over Australia saw Argentina progress at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.
Superstar Lionel Messi opened the scoring on 35 minutes - taking him joint-top of the goalscoring charts in Qatar. Alvarez then capitalised on a mistake from goalkeeper Mathew Ryan to double his side's advantage.
However, just moments after the City striker was replaced by Lautaro Martinez, the underdogs were offered a glimmer of hope. Craig Goodwin's long-range effort took a wicked deflection to ensure a nervy finish.
Argentina ultimately held on to their lead to book a place in the quarter-final. Alvarez - who scored his second goal of the competition - will meet a familiar face in the next round.
City teammate Nathan Ake progressed earlier in the day after defeating the United States 3-1. Many suspected a potential upset on the cards but goals from Memphis Depay, Daley Blind and Denzel Dumfries secured a comfortable win.
John Stones, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden will be hoping to join their club teammates when England take on Senegal on Sunday.
