Since arriving at Manchester City, Julian Alvarez has flown under the radar. The 22-year-old's seven goals and two assists in 20 appearances for City have been overshadowed by Erling Haaland's super-human statistics. But, if you look at his stats closely, Alvarez's achievements should not and cannot be understated.
So far, particularly in the Premier League, Alvarez has had to settle for most of his appearances being off the bench. When trusted in the latter stages of the Champions League group stages though, he has not let Pep Guardiola down.
It is clear to see why so many comparisons have been made between him and Sergio Aguero. Their turn of pace and their striker's instincts are almost identical.

The longer Alvarez has spent with the Blues' first team, the more astute a signing he has proved to be. Now is the time for him to be the centre of attention though.
Against Saudi Arabia, Alvarez was given a mere 30 minutes to impress. While his teammates, including Lionel Messi, laboured in the Qatar heat and the Saudi pressure, City's forward looked sharp and eager to impress.
Argentina's lacklustre display was the main talking point from the defeat but it was by no means the only takeaway. Alvarez showed glimpses of a player that he is touted to become.
With several changes expected for Lionel Scaloni's side on Saturday against Mexico, Alvarez is surely one man who deserves a chance to start. The South American's second match of the group stage will offer the 22-year-old a significant opportunity in his development.
Unlike in his appearances for City so far, Alvarez will be experiencing an extremely high-pressure match. Lose and Argentina will be on the brink of elimination if not out entirely.
All eyes will be on the Argentinians and their fans expect a response. If Alvarez provides the said reaction for his nation, Guardiola will no doubt sit up and pay attention.
Alvarez's next step in his development is to show that he can handle the pressure of the big game and his ability to do so or not will spell out his long-term fate at City. The 22-year-old must now grab this opportunity and show the world, and those in Manchester, what he can do.
