Julia Bradbury shares emotional moment she was told she needed mastectomy

Julia Bradbury has shared an emotional video on social media showing the moments after she learned she would need a mastectomy.

The 51-year-old television star, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2021, was in tears as she struggled to compose herself after the difficult news.

The six-second video shows Bradbury shaking and covering her face with her hands before taking a big breath to try and compose herself.

Bradbury chose to share the emotional video on her Twitter ahead of the release of her new ITV documentary about her breast cancer experience.

Alongside the brief clip, Bradbury wrote on social media: “This is the moment I found out I needed a mastectomy.

She added: “Utter shock, sadness & fear. I’ve made a documentary for @itv about my #breastcancer experience to spread awareness, not just about cancer but the impact a diagnosis has on a person & their family & friends #cancer #treatment.”

Since sharing the raw moment with her followers, Bradbury has been inundated with supportive messages.

“This is so brave to share. 7 years on I still feel the physical reaction at my diagnosis. The phone call, the floor being whisked out from under me and the real sense of falling into a very black hole,” penned one follower.

Another wrote: “Aww bless you. Very brave to document everything, thank you for sharing your honesty & vulnerability.”

One month after her cancer diagnosis, the Countryfile star underwent a mastectomy as part of her treatment.

In February 2022, the presenter made a return to television when she appeared on This Morning. Speaking to her co-stars at the time, Bradbury revealed she was recovering well after her surgery.

She said at the time: “I’m recovering. I had a mastectomy a couple of months ago. I’ve been doing lots of physio and treatment. My healing is going very well, thank you.

“I’ve taken this opportunity to suck in the green therapy and I’m going to go for a little walk around the forest when I’m finished here this morning.”

Since then, Bradbury has shared several updates on social media, including that she has decided to reevaluate her diet and relationship with refined sugar.
