Julia Bradbury reacts to 'too skinny' comments from trolls with inspiring message

Countryfile host Julia Bradbury has hit back at trolls who have criticised her for being "too skinny" in an inspirational Instagram post that detailed just some of the reasons her weight has fluctuated.

The Julia Bradbury: Breast Cancer and Me documentary presenter posted a picture of herself wearing a sleeveless black bandeau top that showcased her defined arms and layered necklaces. Julia - who after undergoing a single mastectomy following her diagnosis is in remission from cancer - asked her fans if they, too, had experienced this sort of bullying.

The 52-year-old mother-of-three wrote alongside the picture - which was soundtracked by Eminem's song The Real Slim Shady: "YOU'RE TOO SKINNY! "I've often been criticized for being "too skinny" although people who know me always comment about how much I eat. Do you get similar criticism?"

She continued: "I've definitely got a fast metabolism and I'd be classified as high energy. I've never put on weight, apart from once in my early 20's. Since my #breastcancer I've cleaned up my diet (I was addicted to refined sugar) and mostly stopped drinking. The stress of my diagnosis plus the change in diet, meant I lost weight - which I couldn't afford to do.

"I've been building my self back up with regular weight training and focussed attention to my diet:protein, meal planning, controlled exercise. I've managed to put on 3kg of weight which I'm happy with. Weight control in either direction takes focus and planning. How we feed ourselves and move is an essential part of our health. How do you manage?"

Soon after this emotive and empowering message, Julia was enveloped in supportive messages on the social media platform with many fans coming to her defence and berating the people who described her in this way.

Owning Your Menopause personal trainer Kate Rowe-Ham wrote: "It always amazes how people feel they have the right to comment on others. I always get wow you’re short!! The most important thing to remember is we can’t see strong and it looks different on everyone. You are an inspiration - that’s all there is to it! And you look strong , beautiful and healthy."

Another user, Jane Maylor, wrote: "I don't see why anyone (especially those that will say it on a platform but wouldn't to your face) thinks they have the right to be, quite frankly, plain rude or intrusive. We are all different shapes and sizes. You are a healthy woman glad to be on this planet. Carry on being you xx"

A third, Sanjay Lal, added: "It’s a disgraceful criticism of almost every woman in the public eye. Too skinny or too fat. The body has a unique way of finding its own equilibrium when treated well."
