Julia Bradbury cries in moment she was told she needed mastectomy amid cancer battle

Julia Bradbury has broken down in tears in an emotional video after she was told that she would need to undergo a mastectomy as part of her breast cancer treatment last year.

The 51-year-old TV presenter revealed that she had breast cancer last year in September 2021.

One month later she had a mastectomy, and now she has given fans a glimpse into the moment she found out she'd need to have the surgery.

Taking to Twitter on April 14, Julia penned: "This is the moment I found out I needed a mastectomy.Utter shock, sadness & fear. I've made a documentary for @ itv about my #breastcancer experience to spread awareness, not just about cancer but the impact a diagnosis has on a person & their family & friends #cancer #treatment."

In the short 12 second clip Julia can be seen covering her face with her hands while trembling and then saying "I've...." before trailing off, releasing a deep sigh and looking down with tears in her eyes.

Fans of the star were quick to flock to the comments section with words of support and admiration.

One penned: "Total respect for your honesty. You will help others by bringing this into the open. Thank you. You are a class act."

While another added: "This is so brave to share. 7 years on I still feel the physical reaction at my diagnosis. The phone call, the floor being whisked out from under me and the real sense of falling into a very black hole. Thank goodness for science and healthcare, but I’ll never forget the feeling."

The Countryfile presenter, 51, had her left breast removed in October after receiving her cancer diagnosis.

Fans of the star were quick to rally round the star after she posted the moving video (@JuliaBradbury/Twitter)

She shared a powerful topless image of herself shortly before her surgery.

Alongside it she wrote: "I'm going for my last walk in this body. I'm going for my last walk with these boobs.

"One of the the best bits of advice I've received in the weeks of my breast cancer diagnosis (thank you) .. is to say goodbye to my breast and to thank my body for all the sustenance, joy & life it has given me."

But more recently, last month the TV presenter took to Instagram to promote Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and shared an update on her breast cancer battle in the process.

"Thank you @maggiescentres for all your safe comfortable spaces to talk or just be.

"Thank you @ovariancanceraction for all your research into the silent killer that is ovarian cancer. It's #OvarianCancerAwarenessMonth - see my post from yesterday about symptoms to look out for & join their #WalkInHerName step challenge."

She then thanked more people, writing: "Thank you @futuredreamscharity @pinkribbonfoundation @preventbreastcancer @oriordanliz @owisebreast @breastcancernow @macmillancancer @blackwomenrisinguk @brcasisters @draindollies.

"And all the other breast cancer charities for your support & community connections. Sending love [heart emoji]."
