Julen Lopetegui makes 'sad and frustrated' claim after Liverpool beat Wolves

Julen Lopetegui is adamant his Wolverhampton Wanderers side deserved more after they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Liverpool.

Harvey Elliott’s 13th-minute strike earned the Reds a narrow triumph in their third round replay at Molineux on Tuesday evening.

Wolves were unhappy a Toti goal was disallowed for offside late on in the first game at Anfield 10 days earlier, which ended in a controversial 2-2 draw.

And Lopetegui said: “The reaction is to be sad and frustrated to not be continuing in the cup. We had a big ambition.

“Looking at the two matches we deserved more but this is football. It’s about the score. But in the same way we scored more goals in the first match and all of you know why.

“We started playing well in the first minutes, after the goal we maybe suffered a lot emotionally. In my opinion we were out of the match until half-time, I wasn’t happy with it."

Of the game, Lopetegui added: “We changed some things at half-time and my players put it all on the pitch. Unfortunately for us we lost, which was a pity for our fans as we fight for them. I hate to lose and today we lost, so I’m sad.

“There is no positive to being out of the cup.”
