Julen Lopetegui claims Wolves deserved more from Manchester United game

Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui felt his side deserved at least a point against Manchester United in his first game in charge at Molineux.

Marcus Rashford's second-half goal gave United a narrow 1-0 win in a game of fine margins in the Midlands. Rashford had been left on the bench after oversleeping and missing a team meeting, but came on at the break to score the winner.

Wolves were in their game throughout but struggled to create chances, with David de Gea's only save of note coming when he turned Ruben Neves' free-kick around the post.

It was a scrappy affair at times and neither side looked like they had many goals in them, but Rashford's 76th-minute strike was one of the few moments of real quality.

Lopetegui was pleased with the performance of his own team, however, and felt they deserved a result against a 'big team'.

"We deserved more but I want to highlight the belief of the players the way they fought against a big team like Manchester United. We have to improve but I think we deserved more against a very big team," he said.

Lopetegui was angry with referee Rob Jones during the game and the official incurred the wrath of the home fans well. The Wolves boss was furious Casemiro escaped a booking in the first half for a tactical foul, before he saw yellow after the break was hacking down Daniel Podence.

He was asked about the referee after the game but refused to vent his frustrations in public.

"A very good question, but I can't answer it," he said.
