Juhi Chawla birthday: Remembering her most difficult sequence with Sunny Deol

Juhi Chawla who turns a year older today, has done her share of dramatic and comedy scenes in her career. But thinking about her only action sequence, in Rahul Rawail’s Arjun Pandit in 1999, still gives her the shivers.

Recalls Juhi, “During a high-octane climax chase, Sunny Deol and I had to dodge the baddies by hiding in a three-feet trench under a railway track at a yard in Mahalaxmi. We got inside the tiny space with a camera, placed by action-director Tinu Verma, who had worked extensively with Sunny in the past. Even at that point, I didn’t exactly know what I would have to do, or I’d have probably run away.”

What Juhi didn’t know was, “While we were in that trench, a speeding coal train had to race on the tracks above us. We couldn’t move at all, and if I’d raised my head even a few inches, it would’ve been chopped off. When the director called action, there I was, crouched and immobile in the hole with a train hurtling over my head. As it went past, I could see beams of light falling on us from between the coaches: one bogey, two, three, four... it seemed endless."

Juhi's reaction to the situation was, "I just held on to Sunny and had left the rest to God. If I’m asked to do it again, I’ll probably say, ‘no thanks’.”
