The judging panel has been selected for the Hull Live Business Awards - with time running out to get your entry in front of them.
There is just the remainder of this week to finalise nominations for the 14 categories that will make up this year’s event.
Joining returning judges - For Entrepreneurs Only chief executive Jan Brumby, Sewell Estates managing director Jo Barnes and headline sponsor Reach Recruitment’s managing director Benjamin Davis-Rice - is Peter Aarosin. A director and shareholder of several companies, including Danbrit Holdings, Danbrit Shipping and East Trans on the Humber, he is a past chair of bondholder organisation Marketing Humber, former president of the Goole area Chamber and former director of the umbrella Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce and Humber Local Enterprise Partnership.

He said: “I am looking forward to it. New businesses, and those doing well are the lifeblood for development and seeing the region progress. I am very keen on new SMEs, for the thriving SME of today is the much bigger company of tomorrow.
“It is so important for companies to celebrate success and it inspires others, and the talent and passion on show is so nice to see, with awards and recognition encouraging them to do even better and do more.”
Mr Aarosin has been based in East Yorkshire for more than 40 years. His companies have strong links to long term business conducted in Holland, Portugal, and his Danish homeland, while interests have also developed in Oxfordshire and Essex, with businesses as diverse as packaging and cement.
Of the challenging situations faced by the business community in recent years - with Brexit, Covid then the Russian invasion of Ukraine sending inflation soaring, he said: “I have always believed that when there are changes and there is upheaval, that’s when the biggest opportunities come. They are not often immediate, but can be there for the long term.”
Reflecting on his own experience with Essex Cement, started in May 2020, he said: “It has absolutely grown and grown, it has been fantastic.”
New ways of working have also “empowered” teams, he said. “When Covid struck I had to work from home, but we had the East Trans office that was very quickly determined as an essential company, so too the packaging company in Banbury and then the cement - all working normally - but I couldn’t go and talk to the teams. It switched to Zoom meetings, we did that every day and things were running really well. One of the biggest lessons was that decisions were still made, as everyone is so much more empowered.”
