A judge in New York City has once again postponed the sentencing for Aimee Harris, the woman who pleaded guilty to stealing the diary and other items belonging to President Biden's daughter, Ashley.
Harris appeared in court via video link from her home in Florida as her attorney requested another adjournment, citing child care and related issues. The defense attorney asked for the sentencing to be moved to the week of April 8, emphasizing Harris' desire to be present.
The prosecution argued against the delay, expressing concerns about Harris' credibility and history of not showing up for hearings. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Sobelman urged the judge to issue a bench warrant for Harris' arrest, stating that the court's patience had been abused.
Despite acknowledging some issues with contacting Harris, the probation and pre-trial service officers supported the defense's request for a final opportunity. The judge ordered the defense to provide necessary documents by Friday at noon to avoid a bench warrant.
Judge Laura Taylor Swain agreed to postpone the sentencing until April 9, cautioning Harris about the consequences of not appearing. She emphasized the importance of attending the sentencing and gave Harris a final opportunity to do so.
In 2022, Harris pleaded guilty to stealing personal belongings of a government official's immediate family member and selling them to Project Veritas. The stolen items included a diary, tax records, and family photos. Harris faces a maximum of up to five years in prison when she is sentenced.
