U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, appointed by former President Barack Obama in 2013, is currently presiding over a lawsuit brought by blue states to prevent the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing government data. Chutkan, known for her involvement in high-profile cases, including the investigation into the 2020 election interference, is facing scrutiny due to her past rulings and statements.

In recent years, Chutkan has clashed with former President Donald Trump on various legal matters. Notably, she rejected Trump's claims of presidential immunity in the 2020 election interference case, a decision later overturned by the Supreme Court. Chutkan also played a role in providing documents to the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack, despite opposition from Trump's legal team.

Chutkan's history of rulings against the Trump administration has made her a target of criticism and attacks. In 2024, she was a victim of a false shooting report at her home, believed to be a 'swatting' attack. Despite these challenges, Chutkan continues to uphold her judicial responsibilities.

Throughout her tenure, Chutkan has made decisions that have drawn both praise and criticism. In 2018, she temporarily blocked the U.S. from restricting abortions for illegal teenage immigrants, a ruling later overturned. The following year, she ruled against then-Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos for delaying an Obama-era special education equity rule.

Chutkan's stance on various legal issues, including her opposition to Trump's policies, has sparked controversy and debate. Her current involvement in the lawsuit regarding DOGE's access to government data underscores her role as a prominent figure in the legal landscape.

While the outcome of the lawsuit remains uncertain, Chutkan's track record suggests a commitment to upholding the rule of law and addressing complex legal challenges.
