Jude Moore's boxing coach describes Bristol teen as a 'breathtaking' talent

A former boxing coach of Jude Moore has paid tribute to the talented Bristol teenager following his sudden death. The 19-year-old has been described as a ‘future world class boxing star’ who had a ‘wise head on young shoulders’, and he will be remembered today (April 12) in a funeral service at Bristol Cathedral.

Jude is first-born son to Mark Moore and Carla Moore and has two brothers, Ethan (18) and Beau. He went to Christ Church Downend junior school and then on to Mangotsfield secondary.

Jude first stepped through the doors of Downend Boxing gym when he was 10 years old. He trained hard and it became clear to his coach that Jude would go on to do great things in the world of boxing.

Mr Turner, 50, said: “Jude had trained with me before he went to Hodderston about seven months ago. At the Hodderston base, they have a production line of high quality boxers and he went there to carve a career out for himself.

“He had just come back from Poland after competing and was due to fly to Milan for another fight, but had passed in his sleep.”

The news of Jude’s death has sent shockwaves through the boxing community and throughout Bristol. Mr Turner said: “My wife and I are distraught. Messages have been sent in from all across the boxing world and his past opponents have said how sorry they are to have learned of his passing.

“Jude was one of those kids who achieved no matter what. He would talk to anyone and was fascinated by people from a young age.

“He was very spiritual and had a sense of karma, knowing right from wrong. Jude was very wise for his age, and had an old head on young shoulders.

“I remember we were in the gym one evening and I said how it was bedlam in the gym that night and he replied saying, ‘from chaos comes order’. Jude was a very intelligent and eloquent young man.”

Mr Turner has described Jude as being a performer in the boxing ring and says his technical skill was breathtaking. He said: “He loved everything about boxing, including the performance. He would walk the walk and talk the talk.

“His technical ability as a boxer was breathtaking. As soon as he got in the ring he was dancing all around them and he never seemed to get hit.

“It has been recognised by the World Boxing Council how good he was. Jude would have probably been a world champion.

“Jude had such a zest for life and was a future world class boxing star. His passing is just too tragic for words.”

The funeral service for Jude will be held at 11am today at Bristol Cathedral.
