Andros Townsend admitted it was ‘a pleasure to witness’ Jude Bellingham in the flesh last night as the Liverpool-linked midfielder impressed once again in England’s 3-3 draw against Germany at Wembley.
Gareth Southgate’s side were able to claw back a two-goal first-half deficit via goals from Luke Shaw and Mason Mount before Harry Kane’s penalty turned the scoreline on its head. The Three Lions were denied a win, however, when Nick Pope fumbled a shot into the path of Chelsea forward Kai Havertz, who finished for his second of the game.
Bellingham started in midfield alongside Declan Rice and lasted 91 minutes before being replaced by Jordan Henderson, and the 19-year-old produced yet another imperious performance.

Bellingham racked up the most successful passes (41), passes in the final third (17), shots (3) and successful duels (8), as well as ranking second after winning possession back 10 times - an all-action display, to say the least.
And, reporting on the game for BBC Radio 5 Live at Wembley, Everton winger Townsend was in awe of the widely-reported Reds target, adding that it was a pleasure to see the teenager in the flesh.
“Such a special talent,” Townsend said of Bellingham. “So brave on the ball, not afraid of the occasion. It’s been a pleasure to witness him in the flesh.”
Bellingham - who regularly faces his German opponents when playing for Borussia Dortmund - has continued to progress at an astounding pace since his time at Birmingham. The midfielder only made his England debut in November 2020 but is already regarded as one of the first names on the team sheet by many - especially with the recent injury to Kalvin Phillips jeopardising his World Cup inclusion.
