Jude Bellingham stance on Liverpool summer transfer after Real Madrid thumping

Jude Bellingham has not been put off Liverpool by their recent poor results, which included a thumping defeat at home to Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The Reds have made the England international their top target for the summer transfer window, with boss Jurgen Klopp expected to embark on a major rebuild. That rebuild appears to be badly needed following a dreadful run of results.

Wins over Everton and Newcastle provided a glimmer of hope that their season could be saved. But the humiliating reverse against Madrid, Liverpool's worst at Anfield in their European history, may have set them back with a number of targets.

Bellingham though, will not necessarily be put off by those poor results, according to The Athletic. It is said that the 19-year-old midfielder remains a 'huge admirer' of both Klopp and Liverpool.

The Englishman is widely regarded as being highly intelligent and is expected to pick his next club based on his long-term prospects. That represents a boost for the Reds, with Bellingham not afraid of potentially going a year without playing in the Champions League.

The heavy defeat to Madrid means it is unlikely that Liverpool will win this year's edition of the tournament and secure an automatic place in next season's Champions League. Their prospects of finishing in the top four are also doubtful.

Seven Premier League defeats across the season have left Klopp's men seventh in the top-flight. They are seven points adrift of Tottenham, who currently occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.

Liverpool are desperate to sign Bellingham, with Klopp having been impressed by his performances for Borussia Dortmund. He will have to spend big to sign him though, with the Bundesliga side set to demand a fee that would be nearly double the Reds' record transfer.

The defeat to Los Blancos laid Liverpool's weaknesses bare, though it is claimed there is still a feeling that the race to sign Bellingham is Liverpool's to lose. The Mirror reported on Wednesday that the Reds do have fears that they will not be able to attract Bellingham to Anfield.

If they miss out on Champions League football for next year, it will automatically become harder to attract top level players. Qualifying for the competition will also give them access to badly needed funds for a big-money move for Bellingham.

Klopp will also have to convince Bellingham that he can turn the Reds' fortunes around, though with the midfielder a fan of the German, that should not be too difficult.

While Liverpool are thought to be in pole position to sign the Dortmund star, the ball is firmly in Bellingham's court when it comes to which club he will be joining in the summer.
