Who will be lining up in the midfield for Graham Potter next season and for the forthcoming future? That's the key question that Todd Boehly and the new sporting director, whoever is appointed, will have to answer when next summer's transfer window comes around.
The Blues have just come off the back of a huge summer spend in the first transfer window under the new ownership group who have shown their appetite to splash £250million Roman Abramovich style to try and not only help the manager on the pitch but also to match the ambitions of their predecessor. Defence and attack were the order of the time as Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling were all signed. In midfield, Denis Zakaria was signed on a season-long loan whilst Carney Chukwuemeka is certainly one for the long-term future of this newly looked Blues outfit.
It is expected that in the next two transfer windows, the midfield is expected to be high up on the agenda for Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital with N'Golo Kante and Jorginho's contractual situations have caused some area for concern amid the latest Athletic update. Therefore, it's really no surprise to see the likes of Declan Rice amongst others continually linked. Interestingly enough though, two midfielders could be open to a Stamford Bridge switch if £150million was to be stumped up. Moises Caicedo has admitted already that he would be open to a Potter reunion in the future.

"It made me very sad now that he left for Chelsea because he helped me a lot and I wanted to continue having him as a manager, but that’s football," Caicedo told Ole via the Evening Standard. "Right now I’m very focused on Brighton and the World Cup. I want to have a great World Cup and then we’ll see what happens.
"I think they are one of the best teams in the world and nobody would turn down an offer from Chelsea or any other club like that. It’d be a dream to be in the best teams in the world and succeed there."
On top of this, the Daily Mail have indicated that Boehly is ready to join the congested £150m race which involves the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool, Man City and others as many chase Jude Bellingham with Borussia Dortmund expected to cash in at the end of 2023/24.
If the best situation came to the fore, football.london previews what Potter's midfield could look like in his customary 3-5-2 formation which he used against RB Salzburg and in the latter parts of his Brighton tenure.
With Kante and Jorginho potentially off at the end of the current season, both Caicedo and Bellingham would become automatic starters in the midfield three alongside the ever-reliable and improving Mateo Kovacic.
Chukwuemeka would either go on loan or become a squad option for Potter to optimise. Depending on how Zakaria does too if all goes well, he could find himself as a rotation option if purchased at the end of the season following his loan.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek may also be used as an option but it wouldn't be surprising if he demands a loan or permanent exit in favour of gaining more regular first-team football.
Chelsea fans- How likely do you think it is that new owner Todd Boehly is able to sign both Moises Caicedo and Jude Bellingham in what is expected to be a major reshuffle in the midfield department next summer? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
