Jubilee bank holiday supermarket opening times for June 2022 celebrations

Supermarkets will be open over the four-day weekend, including both bank holidays, but many larger stores will operate under slightly reduced hours.

There are bank holidays on Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3 in 2022. The spring bank holiday usually held on the final Monday of May has been moved to Thursday June 2, which will be followed by an additional bank holiday on Friday June 3 to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

There are no laws forcing stores to close for the upcoming bank holidays - they only apply to larger supermarkets on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. But many are taking the opportunity to reduce hours, although others will remain open as normal.

In general, smaller stores - like Tesco Express or Sainsbury's Local - wiare sticking to usual hours. Larger superstores - like Tesco Extra or a "Big" 24-hour Asda are reducing their hours.

Usual hours will apply on Sunday June 5. Most stores will close as normal on Saturday June 4, although some will open later than usual.

Queen's Platinum Jubilee bank holiday supermarket opening times

Some supermarkets are opening as normal on Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3, but others - often larger ones - are cutting hours. Usual hours apply on Saturday and Sunday, other than some later openings on Saturday for stores that close earlier than usual on Friday June 3.

Aldi is among the supermarkets sticking to usual hours, as is Morrisons in many cases.

Aldi

Most stores will open at 8am and close at 10pm on Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3. Aldi is sticking to its usual opening hours for the Jubilee bank holiday.

Hours can vary. Check your nearest Aldi opening hours by entering your post code into its store finder.

Lidl

Most stores will open at 8am and close at 8pm on Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3. Lidl supermarkets will open 8am to 10pm on Saturday June 4. Usual Sunday hours of 10am to 4pm will apply on June 5.

As hours can vary, check Lidl's store locator.

Tesco

Larger Tesco supermarkets, like the Extra stores, will operate under reduced hours on Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3. Instead of opening for 24 hours or closing at midnight, many will open at 6am and close at 8pm on both bank holidays.

Many "Express" stores will stick to usual hours, although there are some that will close early. Check your nearest Tesco opening times here.

Morrisons

In general, Morrisons will open as normal over the four-day weekend. Most stores open at 7am and shut at 10pm on Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3. Check Morrisons opening hours here.

Asda

Many stores are sticking to usual hours, with smaller Asdas shutting at 10pm as normal. But larger Asda supermarkets that usually open until midnight or 24 hours - like the MetroCentre superstore - will shut at 10pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and will reopen at 6am on Friday and Saturday. Usual Sunday hours apply. Opening hours do very. See Asda's opening hours via its store locator here.

Sainsbury's

Many larger stores will close early and open later than usual. For example, the 'big' Sainsbury's in High Heaton, Newcastle will open at 8am and shut at 8pm on Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3, instead of its usual 7am to 10pm hours.

Smaller "local" stores will stick to their usual hours. Trading hours can vary, though, so check Sainsbury's here.
