TfL Tube map 'World Cup final': Jubilee and Victoria lines go head-to-head in 'ultimate London Underground tournament'

The wait is nearly over. The eagerly-anticipated World Cup final showdown… between two Tube lines… is almost upon us.

Tuesday’s match, between the Jubilee and Victoria lines, is the creation of rail enthusiast Geoff Marshall. Last month, he launched his second “World Cup of lines on the TfL map” on Twitter.

Thousands of commuters have been voting for their favourite transport routes, with Jubilee and Victoria breezing past Overground and Northern in the semi-finals over the weekend.

Mr Marshall has taken his competition so seriously that he has even laid on venues for the matches. The final, appropriately enough, will “take place” in Green Park.

He told the Standard last week: “It has been really popular, people get fiercely passionate about their favourite lines.

"Thousands are voting and more and more people are taking part each time.

“Either people are saying they’ve commuted for years on a certain line and have affection for it or they are saying they have travelled on it for years and think it's rubbish.

“People do like supporting the underdogs, but Waterloo and City will never make it.”

Tuesday’s final is a repeat of last year’s match-up, in which Victoria beat Jubilee by 35 votes.
