Jubeir Says Biden's Visit is Huge Indication of Kingdom's Regional, Int’l Role

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, US President Joe Biden, and Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel al-Jubeir (Asharq Al-Awsat)

Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir affirmed that Saudi Arabia and the US have strong historical and strategic relations in all fields.

Jubeir said the visit of the US president is an excellent indication of the Kingdom's role in the region and the world, noting that the visit will contribute to supporting and confirming bilateral relations and pushing them to a stronger horizon over the coming decades.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Jubeir lauded the partnership between the two countries, especially concerning energy and food security, confronting climate change, and facing challenges in global supplies.

He also hailed the US-Saudi partnership in freedom of navigation and issues of mutual concern, including security and stability of the Kingdom, Iran's policies, supporting Iraq, dealing with the crisis in Syria and Lebanon, finding a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, addressing challenges in the Horn of Africa, and the situation in Libya and the Sahel countries.

Ties between the two countries also includes working together on Afghanistan, said Jubeir, adding: "They are working together with Afghanistan to ensure it does not become a safe haven for terrorists and that it moves forward and becomes a normal country in which normal men and women can lead normal lives."

"They work together to enhance and advance connectivity through 5G and 6G as well as exploration of outer space," said Jubeir.

The minister highlighted the vast investments and trade between the Kingdom and the US, noting the hundreds of thousands of Saudi students in the US, adding that more than 80,000 US citizens reside in the Kingdom.

Jubeir explained that the Kingdom has a vital role in ensuring security and stability in the region and the world, as it is a member state of the G20 and the largest exporter of oil in the world.

Saudi Arabia is one of the largest investors in the world, and its geographical location links Asia, Europe, and Africa together and plays its role as the largest economy in the Middle East and Africa and one of the 20 largest economies in the world.

He stressed that hosting many conferences asserts Saudi Arabia's influential position, noting that it hosted three summits in three days when former President Donald Trump visited the Kingdom.

It also hosted former President Obama at a Saudi-US-Gulf summit and a Gulf-US summit, and several countries were invited to participate.

The Kingdom continuously holds Islamic and Arab summits, reflecting its role and the respect it receives in the Gulf, the Arab world, and the Islamic world.
