Juan Soto, the All-Star outfielder, has signed a record-breaking $765 million, 15-year contract with the New York Mets. As part of this deal, Soto will have access to a luxury suite and up to four premium tickets behind home plate for both regular-season and postseason Mets home games. The Mets have also agreed to provide personal team security for Soto and his family during spring training and all games, both at home and on the road.
In addition to these perks, the Mets will assist Soto's family with in-season travel arrangements and have guaranteed that he will wear his preferred uniform number, 22. Soto, who previously played for the Nationals, Padres, and Yankees, will be formally introduced by the Mets at a news conference at Citi Field.
The contract includes a $75 million signing bonus, with salaries ranging from $42.5 million to $46.875 million per year until 2029. Soto also has the option to opt out of the agreement after the 2029 World Series, but the Mets can prevent this by increasing his yearly salaries for 2030-2039.
Furthermore, Soto stands to earn various award bonuses, including $500,000 for winning his first Most Valuable Player award, $350,000 for a World Series MVP, and $150,000 for finishing third through fifth in MVP voting. He will also receive bonuses for All-Star selections, Gold Glove awards, and other accolades.
This signing represents a significant moment for the Mets, with team owners Steve and Alex Cohen expressing their excitement over adding a player of Soto's caliber to the roster. The Mets' president of baseball operations, David Stearns, highlighted Soto's on-field production and his passion for the game as valuable assets for the team's future success.
