The committee that organised the JP McManus Pro-Am have been given the Limerick Person of the Year Award.
The event, held at the Adare Golf resort last year, attracted over 80,000 people to the area ahead of the Ryder Cup which is scheduled to take place there in 2027.
This is the 22nd year of the annual awards ceremony. It is hosted by The Limerick Leader Newspaper which picks 1 person per month throughout the year and the 12 nominees were honoured at a ceremony in the city earlier today.

Amongst those 80,000 attendees at the Pro-Am were a host of sporting stars and celebrities including Tiger Woods, Thomas Bjorn, Niall Horan and AP McCoy. BBC Match of the Day presenter and England legend Gary Lineker was also in attendance.
The committee had four years to plan the event with it originally scheduled for 2020 before the pandemic. They were honoured for shining an international spotlight on the Limerick area ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup.
Upon receiving the award McManus said, "It’s hard to describe just how much this award means to us. It wouldn’t have been achieved without the outstanding work of our committee, the volunteers who gave tirelessly over many months, or years to make sure that the event went as smoothly as possible. These things aren’t possible without the help and co-operation and the goodwill of all the people in the midwest and Limerick.”
